"Tractor Accident Kills Pleasants County Farmer"County'

Franklin D. Higgins, 57, of St. Marys was killed Wednesday in a farm tractor accident.

The accident occurred at approximately 10:30 a.m. on the Higgins farm in the Rock Run area of Pleasants County when his tractor overturned on him, said police. The cause of the accident is unknown.

Higgins was born in Pleasants County, a son of the late Everett and Opal Bailey Higgins.

He was a member of Zoar Baptist Church and an employee of American Cyanamid Co., Willow Island Plant.

He was a supervisor for Upper Ohio Valley Soil Co Conservation District, a member of the Future Farmers of America Council, president of the Pleasants County Farm Bureau, director of Region 6 Farm Bureau, a member of the Solid Waste Management Committee and a member of the OCAW
Union.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Winland Higgins; one daughter, Sheryl Byrd of St. Marys; one granddaughter; two sisters, Velma Barnard of St. Marys and Sharon Gilbert of Bunnlevel, N.C.; one brother, Francis G. Higgins of Parkersburg; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers.

The funeral will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Ruttencutter Funeral Home, St. Marys, with the Revs. Franklin Lambert and Bud Corbin officiating. Burial will be in Maple Lane Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 10 a.m. Friday.
