Nathan, served with the Georgia 19th Infantry Regiment, Co. "H" at the battle of the first Manassas Junction in Virginia. He was returned home as "disabled" and died at home the following spring.

His brother died in service, a month latter. The final resting places of his brother and that of another brother, listed as missing, are not known.
