She was born in Wirt County Jan. 13, 1885, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas A. Hopkins, and was a member of Creston United Methodist Church. She lived most of her life in the Burning Springs community and Creston area. For the last several years she made her home with a daughter, Mrs. Virginia Vandall in Parkersburg, and the last four years was a patient at Christian Anchorage.
Survivors in addition to the daughter, Mrs. Vandall, include a son, Ralph Merrill, of Parkersburg; a brother, Richard Hopkins; three half-brothers, one half-sister, nine grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Merrill; one son, Ray Merrill, three brothers, three sisters, four half-brothers and one half-sister.
Funeral services were held at the Pomroy Funeral Home, Elizabeth, on Saturday afternoon. The Rev. Edgar Cooper officiated and burial was in the Snyder Cemetery at Creston.
