Thomas E. Bodenschatz, "Paca", aged 66, of Summerhill, died in Wilmore, as the result of an auto accident. He was born in Johnstown, son of Edward J. "A" Jr. and Margaret M. "Meg" (Rooney) Bodenschatz. Paca was preceded in death by parents; infant brother and sister; and brother, James.

Survived by wife of 43 years; daughters; sons; grandchildren; siblings; sister-in-law; and numberous nieces and nephews.

Tom was a U. S. Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War. Retired technician from GTE and their sucessor, Verizon Communications, after 41 years of service. He enjoyed and worked to protect nature and wildlife. Member of IBEW, Allegheny Plateau Audubon Society and Pennsylvania Nature Conservancy. Tom was a lifetime member of Summerhill Volunteer Fire Company and was provided that distinction after risking his life to save a fellow Summerhill resident, Paul Cronauer, during the 1977 flood.

Friends will be recieved from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at Charles O. Dimond Funeral Home, Inc., South Fork, where Summerhill Volunteer Fire Company Station 86 will hold a firefighters memorial service at 7:30 p.m. Memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Whalley Memorial Chapel on the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown Campus, 450 Schoolhouse Road.

Following the service, friends are invited to attend a funeral luncheon at Summerhill Volunteer Fire Company at approximately noon.

The family and the Audubon Society will hold an inurnment service in the fall at Shaffer Mountain Hawk Watch. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in Tom's memory be sent to the Allegheny Plateau Audubon Society, c/o 213 11th Street, Windber, Pa. 15963.
