Herbert Thomas
Herbert Thomas was born June 21, 1860, in Beloit, Wis., son of John L. V. and Christina Thomas. At the age of 12 years he, with his parents, moved to Texas where they lived for 10 years.
He was married to Harriet Elizabeth Haddon April 21, 1891 and they came to Oklahoma and on September 22, 1891, took up homestead near Stroud, where he resided until death claimed him the morning of October 1, 1939.
He is survived by the widow and four children, John L. V. and Leo H., Pryor; Mrs. Clem Brown, Bristow and Fred L. Thomas, Holdenville; one granddaughter, Lydia Lee Thomas, Holdenville. One son, William Haddon Thomas, preceded him in death.
Mr. Thomas was a farmer of ability and a very highly respected personality by all who knew him. His deed to the farm on which he has lived in Oklahoma was signed by President William McKinley, a document that is highly appreciated by the family.
Mr. Thomas was a lover of all things that Nature had to offer and his fondness for flowers was constantly manifest in the bouquets that he would gather and deliver to Mrs. Thomas each day.
To him the heavens were constantly declaring the glory of God and the firmament showing His handiwork. He has now retired from life's struggles and will be greatly missioned by his many friends. His years have been spent in activities and now he rests from his labors. May his soul enjoy the sweets of the eternal Eden.
Funeral services were held in the Stroud Christian church Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. B. E. Newton in charge. Interment was in the Stroud cemetery.
