EAST PALESTINE - Raymond D. Noel, 76, of Jimtown Road, passed away late Tuesday afternoon at the Caprice Health Care Center, where he had been a patient.

Ray was born Oct. 22, 1934 in Unity Township., a son of the late William Ray and Bernzetta Ford Noel, and was a life resident of the East Palestine area.

He had been employed with the former L.W. Nash Co. and Adamson Co., and retired in 1999 from the East Palestine City Schools where he had served as a custodian for 10 years.

He was a member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church, New Springfield, and had been active in the East Palestine Alumni Scholarship Association, as well as Social Concerns and the Meals on Wheels program.

Ray is survived by his wife, the former Viola J. "Susie" Norman, whom he married July 23, 1960; a daughter, Marcie Anne (Robert "Bob") Green, East Palestine; a son, R. Douglas (Karen) Noel, Arnold, Pa., and a brother, C. Dale (Anne Harris) Noel, Youngstown. He also leaves three grandchildren, Chelsea (Mitch) Cyrus, East Palestine, Davina Noel, Canfield, and Joshua Noel, Arnold, Pa., and two great-grandchildren, Elijah and Zachery.

Two sisters, Vesta Noel and Wilma Dyke, as well as a brother, Wm. Eugene Noel, preceded him in death.

Friends will be received at the Oliver-Linsley Funeral Home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday.

The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with Pastor Aimee Raymond of his church and the Rev. David Martin of the Centenary United Methodist Church, officiating.

The family has asked that material tributes take the form of contributions to the East Palestine Alumni Association, P.O. Box 342 or Social Concerns, P.O. Box 231, both of East Palestine, OH 44413.
