Mildred Abbott, 94, of Cape Girardeau, Mo., and formerly of Etowah, died Monday, May 7, 2012, at The Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.
She was born Aug. 15, 1917 in Etowah, to the late Thomas H. and Katherine Lee Gary DeLaney. She and Robert M. Abbott were married March 16, 1960 in Etowah. He preceded her in death on May 10, 2002. She was a member of First Christian Church in Etowah. She had been an elementary teacher for 39 years before retiring and then moved to Cape Girardeau with her husband in 2000 to be with family. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul H. DeLaney and Robert G. DeLaney; one sister, E. Jean DeLaney; one niece, Katchie Kyle DeLaney; and one nephew, Gale Porter DeLaney.
Survivors include three nieces, Lee D. Love, Debbie D. Corse and Kathy D. Haas; one nephew, Paul H. DeLaney Jr.; eight great-nephews; two great-nieces; two great-great-nephews; and six great-great-nieces.
Graveside services will be 4 p.m. Thursday at Green Hill Cemetery in Etowah with Minister Louis Rouse officiating.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 3:45 p.m. Thursday at Bordwine Funeral Home.
