And now 21 people owe their very existence to Mary: her son Robert Isom (Deanna) and their sons Doug (Heather), Brian and Ron; her son David Isom (Susan) and their childredn Josh (Erica), Becky (Michael) Call, Christina (Peter) Lubeck, Michelle (Bryce) Jensen, Katie and Amie; her daughter Catherine (Gary) Neidiger and their children Christopher and Megan; and Mary's seven great-grandchildren. We knew Mary was losing her spunk a couple weeks ago when she stopped asking if she could have a job as a secretary in David's law office. She was proud of the dictation and comptometer skills she honed as a secretary at ZCMI in the 30's and 40's. Mary graduated from East High School and the University of Utah.
She adored her mother Caroline Walker and father John Levi Anderson and siblings Leon (Helen), Melvin (Lois), Dorothy (Russell) Larsen, Norma (Marion) Rowley, Renee (Ed) Smith, Afton (Joseph) Banks, and LaRue/ Misty (Bill) Meine. Mary married Anthony Jepson Isom in 1946. He went ahead in 1967. She loved teaching Primary children at church. One student, Rod Taylor, now a professor of German and philosophy, recently said that the salt dough house that Mary helped him make in Primary and Mary's sweet and guileless teaching were still some of his strongest ties to Christ. The funeral will be Tuesday, October 21 at noon at the Southgate LDS chapel at 2700 South Main in Salt Lake, with a viewing one hour prior. There will be a viewing and celebration of Mary's life Monday, October 20 at Memorial Mortuary at 5850 South 900 East, Murray, at 6-8 p.m. Even deaf and blind, Mary could see and hear what we could not. Even old, Mary was young and alive and in awe of life.
