Obituary of Earline Johnson
(October 7, 1924 - May 11, 2012)
Pascagoula, MS ~ Earline Allen Johnson, of Pascagoula, dear friend to many and longtime community businesswoman, passed away Friday, May 11, 2012 at age 88.
Born in Lauderdale County, MS, on Oct. 7, 1923, Mrs. Johnson and her late husband Hardy founded Johnson Brothers Jewelry Company in Downtown Pascagoula in 1946, where she worked six days a week for most of her life. Soft-spoken and kind, Mrs. Johnson was a true lady, adored by her customers and friends for her sweet nature and love of 'pretty things.' Always ready with a sweet smile and a kind word, Mrs. Johnson very much enjoyed being a part of numerous generations of Jackson County's engagements, weddings, and births. Her memory will live fondly in the hearts of many who shared their special occasions with her at Johnson Brothers.
Mrs. Johnson is preceded in death by her father Hunter Morris Allen and her mother Belvah Thead Allen, husband Hardy Johnson, sister Lessie Mixon, brother Cecil Allen, Sr., and attentive co-workers Decker and Dora Smith. Survivors include numerous nieces and nephews; gracious, selfless caregivers of many years Rose Locke, Ethel Love, and Connie Malone; and devoted friends Debbie and Jay Willis.
Visitation will be Monday May 14, 2012 from 11:30 a.m.- 12:00 p.m. at Macedonia Baptist Church in Suqualena, MS followed by a graveside service in the church cemetery.
Special thanks to Irene Brock, RN of Community Hospice for her attentive care and compassion.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, Johnson Brothers Jewelry Scholarship, a longstanding endowed scholarship fund established by Mrs. Johnson to further the education of young people in Jackson County.
