Albert Meyer, 81, of Traer, a resident of Tama county most of his life, died Friday in the Deaconess hospital at Marshalltown. Death was due to complications of old age. He had been in this hospital about two weeks. Funeral services were held at the States Funeral Home in Traer Sunday afternoon, conducted toy the Rev. B. T. Schwab, Congregational pastor. Florence Owens sang hymns. Casket bearers were Fred Childs, O. L. Olson, Frank Vajgrt, Dr. F. M. Henry, Amiel Hansen and Otto Moeller. Mrs. Henry and Mrs. Hansen had charge of the flowers. Burial was in Crystal township cemetery.
Albert Meyer, a son of Henry and Marie Meyer, was born in Scott county, Iowa near Davenport, July 29, 1864. The parents came to Tama county when he was only 4 years old, settling on a farm southeast of Gladbrook, where he was reared to manhood. On May 29, 1886, he married Mary Kathryn Umland, of Toledo. They farmed between Toledo and Montour several years, then moved to his father's farm southeast of Gladbrook. They were residents of the Gladbrook community for many years. In 1913 they moved to Chickasaw county and farmed near New Hampton nine years. In 1920 the couple returned to Tama county, retiring in Traer. They lived in their home on south Walnut street 17 years. Mrs. Meyer was taken by death in 1939. Since then, Mr. Meyer had made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Roy Cooper, and family, seven miles southeast of Traer. During the last two years of his life, he spent part of his time ,at the Schafer Convalescent home in Toledo. He was with the Coopers when he was taken seriously ill about two weeks ago and was taken to the hospital at Marshalltown by ambulance.
Mr. and Mrs. Meyer were parents of two daughters: Elva, who married William Engel, of Traer, died in 1938. Valeria, who married Roy Cooper, survives. Mr. Meyer also leaves four grandchildren— Mrs. Lester Keese, Mrs. William Burghart, Junior Cooper and Maxine Cooper, all of Traer; one brother, William, of Long Beach, California; and one sister, Mrs. Anna Healy, of Hollywood, California. Mr. Meyer was a member of Ripley Congregational church. Hire from a distance for the funeral service Sunday were John Umland, of Columbus, Nebraska; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hoover, of Eldora, Iowa; Mrs. George Meyer, of Marshalltown; and Mr. and Mrs. William Umland of Fort Dodge, Iowa.
