Husband to Mary Jane Williams, the daughter of Harvey Williams, who he married on 1/25/1860 in Westfield, Massachusetts.
He served the Union during the Civil War enlisting in Company "G", 34th Massachusetts Infantry. He was wounded in action at Fishers Hill and later killed in action at Cedar Creek on property known as Stickney's Farm.
It is historically interesting to note that Chapman served with his cousin, Thomas Wagner. They mustered in on the same day into the same company and regiment, was wounded on same day and killed on same day.
Chapman's widow, Mary Jane, filed for a Widow's Pension and was awarded certificate #37217.
His US Gov't military headstone was set 8/21/1883.
