Mrs. Stobbe Passes Away After Long Siege
After lingering for 20 hours after her discovery and without regaining consciousness during that period, Mrs. Dorothy Stobbe died about 3 o'clock this morning at her home in the 1200 block on West Third street. One son, Frank, recently released from the army, was found dead in bed when the Stobbe home was broken into by neighbors at 7 o'clock yesterday morning. An open gas jet on the kitchen range showed that his death was due to asphyxiation. The other member of the household, Henry, an imbecile aged 44, apparently was not injured, little of the gas reaching his room. The city lungmotor was used on Mrs. Stobbe and Dr. Woodin worked with her for hours, finally being joined in his efforts at resuscitation by Dr. Boyden. Mrs. Stobbe failed to regain consciousness, however. It was believed her lungs were so affected that pneumonia either had set in or would have appeared if she had become conscious so the symptoms could have displayed themselves in the usual manner.
A double funeral will be held for Mrs. Stobbe and her son Friday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock at the home and services will be held at the German Lutheran church on East Second street at 2 o'clock, Rev. Mr. Wilkins officiating. The Home Guards will turn out to give honor to the boy who has been serving in the army.
Mrs. Stobbe was born in Germany on October 22, 1855, and was 63 years, three months and 29 days old. She came here from North Loup about two and a half years ago. The son, Frank, was born Jan. 21, 1895, and was 24 years of age. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Stobbe, the father having died several years ago. He was discharged from the army January 26 and stopped here enroute to North Loup.
