Hermond Lee Banton, age 66, was a former resident of Hampton and Newport News, Virginia. He was a retired mobile home salesman. He had also spent some time in the military early on. He was one of four children of Roland Randolph Banton and Hattie Rebecca Banton. His father Roland was the eldest and one of 22 children. Herman was preceeded in death by his parents, his brother Allen who died in 1970 and sister Lydia who died in 1980. Herman was survived by two daughters, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was also survived by one sister, Helen Genevieve Banton Swaim (she since passed away on April 4, 2005). Herman was married to Bettie Jean Flippen who was from Little Rock; the couple divorced in the early 1970's.

Herman's 'kin' originated from the mountains but had relocated to the Peninsula to work at the shipyard. It is said that when Herman decided to move from the Peninsula he bought a 'mountain' to live on in NC; he had a love for motorcycles and owned two Goldwings when he passed.

Funeral arrangements were handled by the Chapman Funeral Home, Stony Point, NC.
