LIEUTENANT BENEDUM DIES IN WASHINGTON

Influenza-Pneumonia Fatal to Pittsburgher in Chemical Warfare Service

M&M M L BENEDUM of 5th & Highland Ave, rec'd news yesterday of the death of their only son, Lieut Claude Worthington in Washington DC, after a short illness of pneumonia, following influenza.

Serving in the US chemical warfare service, was recently appointed to first lieutenancy. He had qualified as a pilot in aviation, not further qualified on account of defective vision, a great disappointment, as he'd planned to enter the aviation service. Born in Cameron, Marshall Co WV, he would have reached his majority next January. He was a member of the Emory Methodist Episcopal church.

Michael & Sarah BENEDUM named the Foundation in memory of their only child, Claude Worthington BENEDUM, who died in 1918 at age 20.

Grants are made to support specific initiatives in the areas of Education, Economic Development, Health & Human Services & Community Development.

(not shown, cols 7&8) ... No specific sum of money hs been earmarked for the Foundation... Mike & his partner in his world-wide oil ventures, the late Jow TREES, are nationally known for their large contributions to public welfare causes...
