Joseph A Adamek was born 25 March 1883 in Czechoslovakia to Frank and Anna Cerny Adamek. He came to the US and Valley County in 1884 with his parents.

Joseph married Marie Capek on October 2 1910 in Ord Nebraska. After their marriage they lived in Omaha for a year while Joseph went to Optical school and finished a course in watchmaking and fitting glasses. They moved to Holly Colo. where they opened a jewerly and optometry shop. Two daughters, Pauline and Ann were born in Holly, as well as a son Paul, who died in infancy. In 1918 they moved to LaJunta Colo where they started the Lajunta Music and Jewerly Company while maintaining shops in Holly and Los Animas. The music departments were closed and the firm's name changed to Adamek's Jewerly.
Joseph passed away in the Lajunta Hospital on June 27, 1942. He is buried in the Ord Cemetery.
