George F. Mitchell, 76, of Bloomington, died Sunday at Bloomington Hospital.
Born June 22, 1916, in Monroe County, he was the son of James L. and Maude (Updegraft) Mitchell. He had worked 10 years as an engineer at RCA before retiring. He was owner of J. & M. Tractor Sales in Bloomington from 1953 to 1963, longtime owner of Bloomington Speedway and a lifetime farmer. He served on the Monroe County Community School Corp. board and had served as Perry Township trustee for 10 years. He was a member of Clear Creek Christian Church and Elks Lodge 446.
Survivors include his wife, Catherine C. (Clay) Mitchell; one daughter, Georganna K. Priest of Bloomington; one brother, Carl J. Mitchell of Bloomington; and two grandsons.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Lloyd Mitchell.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Clear Creek Christian Church with Pastor Glenn Hughes officiating. Burial will be at Clear Creek Cemetery.
Friends may call 2-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Monday at Day Mortuary, and one hour prior to services Tuesday at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to Clear Creek Christian Church building fund.
