History of the 5th Independent Battery Light Artillery:

Captain Andrew Hickenlooper organized the unit at St. Louis, September, 22, 1861. The unit participated at Shiloh, seige of Corinth, Vicksburg, Jackson and Little Rock. The Battery mustered out at Camp Dennison, July 31st, 1865.

5th Independent Battery Light Artillery. Organized at St. Louis, Mo., under authority of General Fremont August 31, 1861, and mustered in at St. Louis, Mo., as 5th Ohio Battery September 22, 1861. Moved to Jefferson City, Mo., October 11, and duty there till March 7, 1862. Attached to Dept. of Missouri till March, 1862. Artillery, 6th Division, Army of the Tennessee, to July, 1862. Artillery, 6th Division, District of Corinth, Miss., to November, 1862. Artillery, 6th Division, Left Wing 13th Army Corps (Old), Dept. of the Tennessee, to December, 1862.
