Actress. She was a child actress on the stage who entered films in the early 1910s, becoming soon one of the most celebrated actresses on the American silent screen. She appeared in over one-hundred films within a ten-year period, winning renown for her athleticism and her versatility in a wide range of works that brought her continued acclaim for her acting ability. She is fondly remembered as 'Esmeralda' in "The Heart of Esmeralda"(1912), as 'Miss Lillian Travers' in "A Florida Enchantment" (1914) and as 'Margaret Elkins' in "Treasure of the Sea"(1918). During Wolrd War I she drove a war ambulance in the streets of New York, and when the influenza epidemic hit the metropolis, she took the "night nurse shift" in the crowded New York hospitals. Edith Storey had a difficult time in reestablishing her career after the war, making three more films in the early 1920s, and then in 1921 at the age of 29 she retired from the movie business.
