Herald Coaster, July 5, 1982:

Antonio Rios, 66, of 2700 Old Richmond Road in Rosenberg, died Sunday. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hernandez Funeral Home, Rosenberg, with Rev. Ernesto Gayton officiating. Burial will be in San Gabriel Cemetery. Religious services are scheduled for 8 p.m. today, and friends are being received at the funeral home.

Survivors include two brothers, Benjamin Rios of Houston and Presentacion Rios of California; two sisters, Hermina Perez and Lydia Cervantes, both of Houston; an uncle and aunt, Daniel and Manuela Rios of Rosenberg; numerous other relatives.

This week Crime Stoppers will pay $1,000.00 cash reward for information leading to the arrest and indictment of the persons responsible for the brutal murder of Antonio Rios, a 60-year-old Rosenberg man. Police have pieced together the following facts.

On the evening of July 3rd, 1982, Antonio Rios was celebrating the July 4th holiday weekend by frequenting several of the lounges in the downtown area of Rosenberg. Police surmize that Mr. Rios was on his way home when he was attacked in the 2500 block of Avenue F, just east of Eighth Street, and stabbed to death. He was wearing a white undershirt, brown trousers, and brown leather boots. At this time, motive for the attack and murder has not been determined.

The body was found by a neighbor about 2:59 a.m. on July 4th.
