Age 84, son of the late Glenn and Ethel Young Betts. He resided in Erie for most of his life.

He worked at Penelec until his retirement. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, participating in the D-Day invasion and the Battle of the Bulge. He earned the Normandy Medal of the Jubilee of Liberty and five Bronze Stars. He was a member of the "Y" Squares, the Trinity Lutheran Church Seniors and the Summit Senior Citizens Center. He enjoyed square dancing and golf.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie E. Frank Betts; a brother, Glenn Betts Jr.; and a sister, Mary Jean Betts.

Survivors include a daughter, Donna M. Crotty and her husband, Daniel, of Millcreek Township; three sisters, Rebecca Parrish and her husband, Robert, of Wesleyville, Nancy Fetterhoff and her husband, Donald, of Lockport, N.Y., and Marion Brown of Salt Lake City; three brothers, John Betts of Aurora, Colo., William Betts and his wife, Mary Jo, of Oil City and Charles Betts and his wife, Helen, of Harborcreek Township; two grandsons and many nieces and nephews.

Burial will be at Erie County Memorial Gardens.
