David Wesley McDonald was the son of Joseph & Christiane (Hall) McDonald.

He married Mary Ann Monroe on 25 Dec 1867. They had at least eight children:

- Mary Katherine "Kate" McDonald Lawrenson (1870-1954)
- Richard Rolland "Rolland" McDonald (1873-1932)
- Elsie McDonald (1876-1877)
- Lydia Ina "Ina" McDonald Fink (1877-1943)
- Charles L. "Charlie" McDonald (1880-1882)
- David Earl "Earl" McDonald (1886-1967)
- Mary Gertrude McDonald (1888-1968)

NOTE: David's obituary lists his DOB as 29 Apr 1844. It also lists his age at death as 77y, 20d - which would make his DOB 02 May 1844.
