Eliza Jane "Jane" McDonald's father was Joseph M. McDonald, and according to her death certificate, her mother was Lorinda Mingus.

She married William Shipley on 25 Sept 1852 in Morgan Co., OH. They had at least eight children, all born in OH:

- Sarah Ann Shipley (abt 1853-abt 1860)
- Joseph Shipley (abt 1856-abt 1861)
- Dorinda Shipley (abt 1858-abt 1869)
- Charles W. Shipley (1862-1931)
- William Albertis Shipley (1867-1952)
- Lydia Matilda "Tillie" Shipley Dupler (abt 1870-bet 1910/1920)
- Frederick Shipley (? - bef 1900)
- Edward F. Shipley (1874-1964)

NOTE about Eliza's biological mother: Eliza's death certificate lists her mother's name as Lorinda Mingus. I have never found any records for a Lorinda Mingus. However - Eliza named one of her daughter's Dorinda, and there are records for a Dorinda/Durinda Mingus.

Dorinda/Durinda Mingus was the daughter of Luther and Elizabeth Lewis Mingus. She was born about 1814. She applied for a marriage license with Matthew McCullick on 16 January 1835 in Athens Co., OH, but there is no record of the marriage ever taking place. She married Silas Cook on 3 April 1840 in Athens Co., OH. He was 26 years older than her, and this was his second marriage. They had two children: John J. and Emily Cook.

If Dorinda/Durinda was the mother of Eliza Jane McDonald, she would've been about 19 years old at the time of her birth. I have not found any marriage record for her and Joseph McDonald. Were they married? Was Eliza born out of wedlock and her father took her to raise? Was Lorinda Mingus a totally different person (perhaps a sister or twin to Dorinda?) who maybe died in childbirth?

Side note: The informant on Eliza's death certificate was "Hutch" McDonald of Glouster, OH. I have never come across a Hutch McDonald, so I suspect it may be a nickname. Her brother, Amherst, is the most likely candidate. He's the only sibling who lived in Glouster in 1910 - George's nickname was "Mart", Joseph's was "J.D.", Autorie's was "Ott", and David lived in MO.
