"Worcester, Sept. 26---Joshua Sawyer, 50, employed by the state as a light maintenance foreman, died suddenly this morning about 10 while engaged in repairing the Worcester-East Worcester highway, about two miles east of the former village. A physician, summoned to the scene, near the home of Mrs. Flora Mallory, said death was caused by a heart ailment. Mr. Sawyer complained of not feeling well and went to the Mallory home for a drink of water. He died immediately. Mr. Sawyer had been employed by the state for 14 years. Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 from the Skinner funeral home. Rev. E. L. Martin of Sayre, Pa., formerly of Worcester, will officiate, and interment will be in Maple Grove cemetery. He was born Sept. 2, 1888, in Schoharie county, a son of John and Hannah (Stevens) Sawyer. Following the death of his first wife, who was formerly Lettie Dibble, Mr. Sawyer married Helen Reed of Worcester Nov. 18, 1913. He joined the Charlotteville Methodist Episcopal church when a boy. Surviving are his wife; five sons, Robert of Davenport, Harrison of South New Berlin, Harold, Raymond and Gordon, all residing in Worcester; his father, John Sawyer of Oneonta; and four grandchildren."
