Amparo (Acuna) Estrada
As the sun rose on the morning of June 06, 2012 the gates of heaven opened up and the Lord called our Beloved Mother, Amparo Estrada, to come home. Although her heart ached to leave her remaining family behind it also raced with anticipation of being reunited with her husband and sons that had gone before her. She hesitated to leave as He beckoned her, but, looking back knew those remaining would be alright. So, with joy in her heart she raced up to the heavens. She was so loved and admired by her family and everyone that she came to know in her 94 years of life…both young and old. Her faith in our Lord was so great and she could be found daily praying to her Sacred Heart of Jesus on everyone's behalf. She held an ongoing garage sale for over 45 years helping out neighbors and those that were down and out, many times just giving away the items when she knew that they may not be able to afford even the 5 or 10 cents that she was charging. Our mother never wanted for much and did not expect anything from anyone. She gave with her heart and never expected anything in return. Her children, grandchildren and great grand children meant the world to her as she did to them.
She was born December 09, 1917 to Manuel and Maria Acuna in La Cananea, Sonora, Mexico. She came to the United States at the age of 8 and grew up in Gardena, CA. As a teenager she moved to the Central Coast and assisted her mother with the labor needed in running a Boarding House. She met our father, Ramon Estrada, at the age of 18 and they married in 1935, settling in Lompoc, CA for a few years and then moving to Santa Maria for the remainder of their 46 years of marriage and together raised 10 children. She was a lifelong home maker and enjoyed working in her yard and tending to her gardens and fruits trees. She loved watching old westerns such as Bonanza and Gunsmoke. She strongly believed in keeping active and could be found walking to the store to get groceries as recent as these past months just prior to her recent stroke. She always said, "I have to keep moving, because if I stop, I will stop forever." She will be forever missed and loved by all who were fortunate enough to have known her and been graced by her presence.
She is survived by her son, Rudy Estrada (Viola) and Daughters, Mary Rodriguez, Josie Carlentine, Margaret Lara (Henry) and Linda Tovar (Frank) all of Santa Maria, 30 grandchildren, 69 great grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her only sister Margaret Andrade.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Ramon Estrada, her sons Raymond, Manuel, Roy and Joe Estrada, two grandsons Roy and Chuck Estrada and also an infant daughter, Maria that passed away at two months of age. We are comforted in knowing that she is at peace and happily united with her loved ones and in God's presence. She will be forever loved and missed. We love you Mommy.
