Chestine "Tina" Patricia Lowen, beloved wife of Jake Lowen of Vauxhall, passed away on Sunday, March 18, 2001 in Lethbridge at the age of 86 years.
Tina was born on the family farm north of Vauxhall on September 17, 1914, the daughter of Olaf and Elise Peterson. She was raised and attended school in Vauxhall. Tina was an active member of the Legion since 1956 and held all positions in the Ladies Auxiliary, of which she proudly became a life member. She loved to play the piano, tend to her garden and reap the benefits of her gardening by canning, baking and cooking.
She will be forever loved and remembered by her husband Jake Lowen and children Shirley (Joe) Tokai of Picture Butte, Sharon (Ben) Bell of Red Deer, Donna Coss of Calgary, Harold Tonge of Winnipeg and Howard (Lana) Tonge of Calgary; son-in-law John Kobal of Lethbridge; seventeen grandchildren; twenty seven great grandchildren; one great great grandson; brothers Roy "Bud" (Helen) Peterson and Lloyd (Agnes) Peterson all of Calgary; sisters-in-law Mabel Peterson of Medicine Hat and Bessie Dawson of Lethbridge and also by numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her first husband Bert Tonge in 1970; sons Dale Tonge in 1954 and Stewart Tonge in 1948; daughter Joan Kobal in 1978, grandson John Kobal, brother Orville Peterson and her parents.
Relatives and friends were invited to meet with the family at the Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Wednesday, March 21, 2001 from 7:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.
The Funeral Service was held at the Vauxhall Mennonite Brethren Church, 320 - 9 Street North, Vauxhall on Thursday, March 22, 2001 at 11:00 A.M. with Reverend Yvonne Mills of the United Church of Canada officiating. Interment followed in the Vauxhall Cemetery.
If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Tina's name may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Alberta, 1011 - 2 Avenue South, Lethbridge T1J 0C8 or to the Kidney Foundation of Canada, 202, 434 - 7 Street South, Lethbridge T1J 2G7
