Son of George Hardman [1818-1875] and Nancy BLAKE Hardman [1819-1877]. Married Caroline Frances BUMBAUGH in 1868. He owned and operated two grist mills in the Gladesville, WVa area. Relocated to Reedsville, WVa c.1878-1880. Their first six children were born in Gladesville: Ernest Russell, James W., George Walter, Frank B., Agnes Grace, and Hattie. The last two children, Hans Melville and Arthur Dent, were born in Reedsville, WVa. The entire family left the area after the Panic of 1893 to settle in McKeesport, PA. Hance died 28 Feb 1925 at age 78 years and 2 months, at the home of his son, George Walter in East McKeesport, PA.
