My second Cousin
Daughter of Jones Onest Gillespie and Minnie Orr Gillespie. Edna never married, she lived at the old home place all her life. Sister of J.T., Bernice and Roland Gillespie.
She was a homebody and didn't bother anyone. She was very nice to visitors but never visited. She was an animal lover. She loved to sew. She helped on the farm, in the fields and with the cooking and house chores. She was very smart in school and wanted to attend college. Her father didn't want her to go so she settled for the farm life.
I have such fond memories of visiting the farm in the summers as a child. Edna was my buddy and I tagged along with her every step. I will never forget all the ghost stories and spy tales she use to tell me. Sometimes very scary, She always had a big bottle of Jergens Lotion on hand and I thought it smelled so good. She let me help my self and I would rub it all over. To this day when I see or smell Jergens Lotion I think of Edna. One summer when I was about 12 I got sick while visiting the farm and had emergency surgery, mama never let me go again. I did go back one time as an adult when my children were young, Edna and her Mother Aunt Minnie made me so welcome. That old pedal sewing machine was still in the hallway. Edna said she still used it. I have regreted I didn't visit more. I really thought a lot of Edna, she was a strange person to some but to me she was NEAT !!! She had such a great sense of humor, in her Bible on the FIRST PAGE, she wrote HELLO WORLD !!!
