Isaac was the son of John Baker, Jr (1774-1843) and Chloe Flora McIntosh (1773-1825) his second wife. Chloe and her parents immigrated from Scotland about 1800-1810 and settled in Bakersville, North Carolina. When John Baker Jr's 1st wife (Sarah 'Alpha' Appling) died, he married Chloe. Chloe was the daughter of Captain Roderick McIntosh.

Isaac married Elizabeth Jane 'Eliza' Griffith on April 18, 1837 in Hazard, Perry County, Kentucky. She was born 1815 in Hazard, Perry County, Kentucky and died August 7, 1888. The Courier-Journal article about her Indian roots indicates she could of been born in either North Carolina or in Big Sandy (adjacent County area).

Isaac and Eliza had the following children:

Polly Baker (1838-1852) died young
LouAnna Baker (1839-1911) my ancestor who married Clinton Combs
John 'Humpy' Baker (1840-1915) who married Kate DeHart
David S Baker (1842-1880) who married Emma Combs
Minerva Baker (1845-1872) who married John Marcus Daniel
William Wellington Baker (1847-1936) who married (1) Josephine Martin (2) Nancy Vermillion
Cynthia 'Sinthia' Baker (1848-1932) who married Benjamin 'Harrison' Combs Sr
Martha Baker (1853-1925) who married James William Fletcher
Henry Baker (1853-1936) who married Zerilda Ann Johnson
Margaret Baker (1858-1926) who married her cousin, Robert 'Robin' A Baker

NOTE:
Isaac Baker (1814-1912) is NOT 'Isaac K Baker' (1812-1889) who was the son of John Jackson Baker (1792-1887) and Mary Campbell (1792-1850), his first wife. Isaac K Baker married Elizabeth Munsey in Jan 1857 in Perry County, Ky but I have no info about him (he died in 1889).

Isaac Baker (1814-1912) is the son of John Jackson Baker Jr and his SECOND wife, Chloe Flora McIntosh who were married May 3, 1803 in Ashe County, North Carolina. is

Isaac K Baker is the son of John Jackson Baker (1792-1887) and Mary Campbell (1792-1850). John Jackson Baker (1792-1887) is the eldest son of John Jackson Baker (1774-1843). Quite Confusing to be sure. but the record of Isaac K Baker's marriage in 1857 indicates it is his and her FIRST (which excludes him being the Isaac Baker married to Elizabeth Griffith in 1837). He was 40 and she was 25. This would indicate he was born in 1817 (approx) which accounts for the general confusion about Isaac Baker and Isaac K Baker being the same).

I am William James, Isaac Baker's 4th Great-grandson. My genealogy is as follows:

Me
My Mother, Jane Mainous married William F James Sr
My Grandmother, Juanita Cornett (1904-1990) married Arch Glass Mainous Sr
My Great-grandfather, William Manon Cornett (1882-1956) married Clara Belle Eversole
My Great-Great-Grandmother, Jane Combs (1859-1925) married Eli Cornett
My 3G-Grandmother, LouAnna Baker (1839-1911)
My 4th Great-grandfather, Isaac Baker (1814-1912)

There are a number of questions surrounding the early Bakers in Eastern Kentucky. Some references indicate that Elizabeth Jane 'Eliza' Griffith was Cherokee. I have found only one reference to this, an article in the Louisville Courier- Journal. However, My mother and her brothers register about 1.5 to 1.75% Native American (using FTDNA and 23 and me tests).

The picture of Isaac was taken at a family reunion of sorts in Hazard. It is referred to in my family as the '5 generations' photo. From left to right are Isaac Baker (he will die soon after), Margaret Baker (his youngest child), Jane Combs (his granddaughter), William Manon Cornett (his great-grandson) and Claribel Cornett his 2G-Grandaughter. Claribel was my Great-Aunt. Manon my Great-grandfather, Jane Combs Cornett my GG-Grandmother.
