Actor. Born in Goldthwaite, Texas, he ran away from home as a youth to join vaudeville and by the 1920s, he got involved in radio drama. In 1932, he began a long run as the lead role of Cliff Barbour on the radio drama "One Man's Family". His other notable radio roles included the "I Love a Mystery" series and as Sgt. Ben Romero on the hit "Dragnet" series in 1949. When "Dragnet" went to the TV version in 1951, he assumed the role of Sgt. Ben Romero, actor Jack Webb's Sgt. Joe Friday's character's partner but the day after filming the second episode he fell ill and died four days later in Burbank, California.
