Mr. Andrews was born in Coffeyville, Kansas to Wilson and Myrtle (Todd) Andrews. He attended Coffeyville schools through Coffeyville Community College. He served in the United States Army for two years during 1951-1953. He spent over a year on the front lines in the Korean War. Upon his return, he finished his education at Pittsburg State University earning his Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Education.
Mr. Andrews began his career in education as a teacher and coach in West Mineral, Kansas. Then he taught Physical Education at Roosevelt Jr. High School, before becoming an administrator at Roosevelt and Field Kindley. He retired as Assistant Principal at Field Kindley in 1993.
In 1955, he married his wife of 56 years, who survives. They had two sons and a daughter. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Coffeyville since 1955. He was a friend to many and a stranger to none. He will long be remembered for his friendliness and kind heart, and he will be sorely missed.
Surviving to honor his memory is his wife,of the home; , a son and wife, of Denver, Colorado, a son and wife, of Weir, Kansas; a daughter, and husband,of Prairie Village, Kansas; five grandchildren,and a great-grandson.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, June 5, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Christian Church in Coffeyville, Kansas.
The family suggests memorial contributions can be made to the donor's charity of choice; these may be left with the funeral home.
