Abram was a silversmith, clock, and watchmaker. He established his first store, on Church Street, in 1793. From 1804 to 1810, he was in a partnership with Moses Bliss, operating from a shop on the southeast corner of Court House Square (City Hall park). The family business continued for more than 90 years, with various family members and business partners. It was known at various times as Brinsmaid & Bliss, Pangborn & Brinsmaid, Brinsmaid Brothers, Brinsmaid, Brother & Co., and Brinsmaid & Hildreth.
Abram married Elizabeth Bliss in Burlington, Vermont about 1807.
Cemetery records indicate Abram is interred at Elmwood. Abram's son, William, purchased a plot for his family at Burlington's newest cemetery, Lakeview, which opened in 1872. William is interred there, but his memorial includes a cenotaph for his parents, Abram and Elizabeth
