Ruth Kathleen Ryser was born July 14, 1920 to Herman and Martha Jane Thompson Ryser on a farm near Agenda, KS. She departed this life of 84 years, 7 months, and 19 days early Wednesday morning, March 2, 2005, at Hilltop Lodge in Beloit.

Ruth spent her childhood on the farm and attended school in the Agenda area.

On November 12, 1937, Ruth was united in marriage to Edward Carl Ryser at Haddam, KS. They began their family on a farm near Haddam, and were blessed with thirteen children: Dale, Linda, Mark, Kay, Rita, Melody, Wendell, Karla, Ted, Lisa, and three children, Gerald, Annette and Anthony, who died in infancy.

Ruth and her family lived in a number of places including Brewster, and Effingham, before settling in the Ames community. She moved to Beloit, in about 1998.

A kind, hard working, and family oriented person, Ruth's greatest treasure in life was her family. She was a master seamstress and made clothes for all of her children and also did sewing for others. She loved hard work and was an excellent cook. She and her husband enjoyed Saturday night dances. Ruth unselfishly gave of her self to help others and was always there for her family. Leisure moments were happiest spent taking care of her cats and of course reading.

Ruth attended the Morgan Wesleyan Chapel and was a member of the VFW Auxiliary.

Her husband died in 1985. In addition, Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, James and David Ryser; three infant children, Gerald, Anthony and Annette Ryser; one granddaughter , Heidi Cauley; and one great-grandson, Alexander Leopoldt.
