On Sunday, April 28th, in Kingsville, Texas, occurred the death of Mrs. Frances Hopkins Hook, wife of W. F. Hook of this village. Mrs. Hook had been in failing health since last October, when she decided with characteristic decision, to be taken to the Tuberculious Hospital in Rome. After three months care the staff of doctors pronounced her safe to be take to some other place with relatives. Discouragement came, however, in an attack of appendicitis, which made an operation imperative. The operation was successful and encouraged by the visits of six of her eight children, Mrs. Hook began to gain slowly. To hasten her recovery she was taken to Texas by her two sons, Wallace and Wesley, where they hoped the warm breezes would coax her back to health. Every effort was made by her son Wesley and at times she seemed better. But her tired body and weak heart failed to respond, and she breathed her last, Sunday April 28th.

Mrs. Hook's ambition in life was to have her children educated and her tireless efforts to equip them for life met with success. Since her children left Waterville to take up responsibilities elsewhere she has given her time and effort unsparingly to work in her church, in the Cornell Club and in the care of the sick. Many homes have been blessed with her comfort and cheer.

Besides her husband, W. F. Hook of Waterville, Mrs. Hook is survived by eight children, eight grandchildren and two sisters, who hold her memory most dear. The sons and daughters are: David, Flora and Ruth (Mrs. P.E. Mallary), who are located in Newark, New Jersey. Mrs. R. A. Goodcell, at Palo Alto, California, Mrs. C. S. Holmes at DeRuyter, New York, T. Wesley Hook at Kingsville, Texas, Mrs. G. C. Shafer at Minneapolis, Minnesota, Wallace Hook at Neosho, Missouri. The eight grandchildren are: Gertrude Hook, Frances and Roscoe Goodcell, Elise and Olive Holmes, Leonard and Marian Shafer and William George Mallary. Two sisters are Mrs. F. W. Fisk of Casscille, New York, and Mrs. Edmund Crampton of Homer, New York. Funeral arrangements have not been completed.
