Immigrated to the United States in 1950.

Alexander served as an aide in Company B of the 11th Illinois infantry. He was present with General U.S. Grant in 1863 when General Pemberton surrendered to him at Vicksburg. He cut a piece of oak wood from the tree under which the papers were signed. Both Alexander and his son John fought with the Union Army during the Civil War.

That same piece of oak was carved into a ring by Alexander and has been passed down through the family - John to James to Johnnie to Ron, who is in possession of the ring today.
