Entertainer. Born to an Italian father and a Welsh mother, he was raised in a coal mine community within the Southern region of Wales. He was brought up above his family's fish and chip proprietorship with aspirations of becoming a school teacher, however he gravitated to entertainment and studied Drama in Cardiff. He acquired performance experience with the Royal Shakespeare Company and during that period, he established his persona which included a blend of comedy accompanied with vocals. During the late 1950s, he marked his debut in both British films and TV and during the height of Beatlemania, Spinetti became associated with the legendary rock band as he had roles in their pictures "A Hard Days Night" (1964), "Help!" (1965) and "The Magical Mystery Tour" (1967). Perhaps, Spinetti's greatest achievement was his Tony and Theatre World Award-winning performance in the production of "Oh! What a Lovely War" (1964 to 1965), in which he played multiple characters. Among his other major film credits include "The Taming of the Shrew" (1967), "Under Mild Wood" (1971) and "The Return of the Pink Panther" (1975). He died from cancer.
