Sophie Girman (nee Danko), age 90 of Whiting, passed away peacefully at her residence on Monday, November 2, 2009.
She was the beloved wife of the late Michael E. Girman, Jr. who passed away on October 31, 1981; loving mother of Patricia Summers of Whiting; cherished sister of Benedict (Alma) Danko of Schererville, Mary Ann (late George) Schuljak of Dyer and the late John Danko; dear aunt to many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 7, 2009 at 9:30 a.m. at the Baran Funeral Home, 1235-119th St., Whiting. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting with the Rev. John E. Kalicky, C.PP.S., officiating. Interment, St. John Cemetery, Hammond. Visitation at the funeral home on Friday from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m. The St. John Rosary Society, together with members of the parish will offer prayers at the funeral home on Friday at 3:30 p.m.
Sophie Girman was born on August 23, 1919 in Whiting, Indiana to Ignatius and Katherine (Melek) Danko and was a lifelong resident.
She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting, the St. John Rosary Society and the Slovak Catholic Sokol, Wreath 81. Sophie loved to play bingo and cards, she enjoyed shopping and going out to eat.
A devoted wife and mother, she will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
