My grandfather was terrific! He had a real practical sense and an astounding knowledge of classical literature and culture. As a teacher, he taught wood shop, math and Latin. As a principal and an educator he supervised three different schools during his career. As a Mr. Fix-It, he could repair a broken toilet or restring a broken violin.
His hobby was making furniture. For the family he made cedar chests, chairs and two china closets. For the local church there on Main Street he made a lectern and perhaps other things. He earned some money by making wooden paddles for the fraternity boys at Bethany College. He was known as "Pop Garner" to the students there. Granddad was especially interested in genealogy and Biblical studies. He was amazing!- (Maryrose/jgs150)
