Illness Fatal to Local Matron
Mrs. Eugenia Harriet Doyen, 92, died Thursday at 1:10 p.m. at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Blanche McCullough, 824 North 25th street.
The elderly woman had lived at Buffalo, Wyo., before coming to Billings about eight years ago, was a victim of cancer.
She was born May 3, 1857, in Richwoods, Mo., a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Charboneau. She was a stepgranddaughter of Touissant Charboneau, interpreter for Captains William Clark and Meriwether Lewis on their historic expedition from St. Louis to the Pacific northwest in 1804 to 1807. Touissant Charboneau at the time was the husband of Sacajawea, guide for the expedition.
Mrs. Doyen is survived by five daughters, Mrs. Cora Bourbon of Sandpoint, Idaho, Mrs. McCullough, Mrs. Elvira Reetz and Mrs. Geneva Wise of Billings, Mrs. Josephine Tytolt (sic.) of Seattle; three sons, Thomas C. Doyen of East St. Louis, Ill., Jesse J. Doyen of Portland, Ore., and Sylvester S. Doyen of Buffalo, Wyo.; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Smith's chapel and burial will be in Broadview cemetery.
