Russel Dean Johnson, beloved husband of Anne Johnson of Vauxhall, passed away peacefully surrounded by family in Taber on Friday, January 1, 2010 at the age of 73 years.
He is survived by his loving wife Anne; son Curtis (Tracy) Johnson of Vauxhall and their children Bailey & Hunter; son Kelly (Alanna) Johnson of Calgary; daughter Kendra (Lyle) Neuls of Grenfell, Saskatchewan and their children Brock, Donovan & Madison. He is also survived by his sister Valerie (Ken) Marsh of Coalhurst.
He was predeceased by his parents Telman & Jean Johnson and his brother Gordon Johnson.
Dean was born in Taber June 27, 1936. He lived on the family farm north of Vauxhall from birth until the age of fifteen. Dean's first job was with C.S. Cas Construction following which he went to work for the P.F.R.A. In 1957, Dean started driving truck for Ronny and Wes Seeger hauling cattle. He married Anne Friesen on February 10, 1962 in Vauxhall and they started their family of three. Eventually Dean purchased his first truck which began his lifelong career transporting livestock. He sold De-Ann Transport in 1997 to take a well deserved break.
Dean served the Town of Vauxhall on Council for three terms. He loved spending time with family and friends. His greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to meet with the family at the Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Wednesday, January 6, 2010 between 7:00 P.M. and 8:00 P.M.
The Funeral Service will be held at the Vauxhall Mennonite Brethren Church, 320 - 9 Street North, Vauxhall on Thursday, January 7, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. with Reverend Alana Johnson of the Parkview United Church in Vauxhall, officiating. Burial to follow at the Vauxhall Cemetery.
If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Dean's name may be made directly to either the Canadian Cancer Society, 317 - 10 Street South, Lethbridge, Alberta T1J 2M7 or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 207, 542 - 7 Street South, Lethbridge, Alberta T1J 2H1.
