OBIT--Airdrie News, Scotland. "Death of Lady Knox, noted authority on Nurse Training. It was with deep regret that Airdrie learned that the death had taken place on Sunday of Lady Jessie Knox, wife of the late Sir James Knox, Lord Lieutenant of the County of Lanark. Lady Knox, who had been in failing health since the death of her husband, was staying near Port Logan, Wigtownshire, in the hope that the change of air would bring about an improvement in her health. She was the daughter of the late Mr. Duncan Campbell, F.E.I.S. of Lesmanagow, and a sister of the late Rev. Dr. John Campbell, a former minister of Airdrie West Parish Church. A nurse by profession, she was a recognized authority on the training of nurses. Her occupation took her to the West Indies, Germany and before her marriage, she was in charge of a students hostel in Dundee. She made many friends with the nurses who received the benfit of her tuition--some of whom have since scattered over the world. After her marriage she continued to take a keen interest in the nursing profession. She was a fitting and most enthusiastic helpmate of Airdrie's most distinguished townsman, and during the busy period when Sir James fulfilled the onerous duties of Lord Lieutenant, she was his willing and helpful co-operator, although shy of prominence herself. Her desire to remain in the background was a characteristic of many good works she performed, and many were the generous actions she performed, protected by anonymity from the public acknowledgment which she deserved. In 1936, Lady Knox, along with Sir James, was admitted as a Free Burgess of the Burgh of Coatbridge. She was the first Lady upon whom that honour had been conferred. Lady Knox was in her 82nd year."
