PORTER, Lela Cox
Died on March 31, 2004 in LaVerkin, Utah at age 82.
She was born on November 11, 1921 to William E. Cox and Margaret Black in Glendale, Utah. She lived there until age 18. She married Harold W. Porter in the Temple in Manti, Utah on June 19, 1946. They eventually made their home in Northern California, where they raised their 9 surviving children on their family ranch.
Lela enjoyed gardening, reading, singing, and Temple work. She traveled extensively after the death of her husband. She has always been a very devout member of the LDS Church, serving in all of the auxiliaries and enjoyed a life time of service.
She is survived by her children, Nancy Bailey, Daniel Porter, both in California, Robert Porter, Earl Porter, Raymond Porter, Alice Best, Frances Romero, Michael Porter, all in Southern Utah, and Mary Vance in Washington. She has 43 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers, Marion and LaVar Cox, and sisters, Fontella, Velva, and Pearl. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold W. Porter and son, David W. Porter.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, at the LaVerkin Stake Center, 481 North Main, LaVerkin, Utah. A visitation was held from 9-10am prior to services at the Stake Center under the direction of Metcalf Mortuary, 435-673-4221. A second visitation will be held on Monday, April 5 at 10am at the Lincoln LDS Chapel on 3rd and "O" Street in Lincoln, California with interment at 11am at the Lincoln Cementery.
