The eldest son of Council Walker and Nancy Bailey of Mercer county VA/WV; he was born about 1839.
His enlistment in the Confederate Army was on 4 July 1861.
He served in the 2nd Company H 60th Virginia Regiment of Infantry, which was formed from men of Mercer county.
He was mortally wounded on 30 June 1862 at Frasures(?), a battle fought in defense of Richmond, Virginia.
A notation was made of him being in Richmond Hospital by 31 August 1862. He died of his wounds 14 October 1862.

The above research was done by George's third cousin, the late Glennis Walker. The spelling of the place of battle may be slightly off, it appears differently in various sources; probably Frayser's Farm, Henrico county, Virginia. Some of the men who died at Winder Hospital were buried at Richmond in Hollywood Cemetery - not all had markers. His uncle Council Walker Bailey died there. Council died on 26 September 1862.

George was the grandson of George C. Bailey of Mercer county and was probably named for him. It is believed that George was not yet married when he perished at the age of 22.
He was the brother of Emezella, Mercena F., Chrispi Anos, Thompson L., Burrell U., Council K., Amanda J., Gaston P., Ira W., James B., and Charles W. J. Walker.
