WILLIAM CORNFORD DIES ON 58TH WEDDING ANNIVERSAY, OCT.28

Funeral services for William A. Cornford were held Wednesday afternoon, Oct 31, at the Litchfield Christian church. The Rev. Gail Dunning officiated, assisted by the Rev. Guy Dunning of Cozad.
Albert Heapy, Rolle Anderson, Mrs. John Cherry, and Mrs. Raymond Heapy sang "Beautiful Beckoning Hand" and "Think of the Home Over There." John Cherry played the piano accompaniment.
Pallbearers were H.I. Lang, Walter Harris, Carl Lang, W.L. Frakes, George Lang, and Ray Eastabrooks. Burial was in the Litchfield cemetery.
After a lingering illness, Mr. Cornford died suddenly on Oct. 28 at his home following a family gathering to celebrate Cornfords' 58th wedding anniversary and also Mrs. Cornford's 75th birthday.
William Alexander Cornford, son of John and Sarah Cornford, was born in Franklin County, Iowa, on July 1, 1869. At the time of his death he was 82 years, three months, and 27 days of age.
He came to Nebraska with his parents in 1879 and settled in the Litchfield community the same year.
He married Fannie Van on Oct. 28, 1893, at Loup City. They established their home on a farm south of Litchfield. They had 10 children of whom seven survive.
In 1913 they moved from the farm into their present home in Litchfield.
On Dec. 31, 1905, he became a charter member of the Christian church of Litchfield.
Survivors include his wife; seven children: Joe, of Kearney; Mrs. Myrtle Diefenbaugh, Merna; Mrs. Ethel Banker, Britt, Iowa; Mrs. Della Banker, Litchfield; Floyd, Litchfield; Paul, San Diego, Calif.; and Mrs. Eleanor Hilton, Litchfield. Also 15 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Walter, Falls City; four sisters: Mrs. Mary Sweley, Lakeside; Mrs. Pearl Riser, Sweetwater; Mrs. Annie Hyslop, Chinco Valley, Ariz.; and Mrs. Edna Brown, Ravenna; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Attending the funeral from out of town were Paul Cornford, San Diego, Calif.; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Cornford, Kearney; Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Diefenbaugh, Merna; Mr. and Mrs. L.C. Banker, Britt, Iowa; Mrs. Wilbur Hinrichs and sons, Central City; Mr. and Mrs. George Wolfe, Grand Island; Mr. and Mrs. Junior Diefenbaugh and family, Merna; Mr. and Mrs. Art Schake, Amherst; Mr. and Mrs. Eldor Geisert and daughter and Mrs. Dale Johnson, Kearney; Mrs. Mary Sweley and Mr. and Mrs. Warren Hooper, Lakeside, Mrs. Pearl Riser, Sweetwater; Walter Cornford, Falls City; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Lang, Kearney; Miss Ann Van, Loup City; Mrs. Bernice Miller, Clarinda, Iowa; Mrs. Arthur Kile, Eddyville; Mr. and Mrs. Albert Lowery, Lincoln; Mr. and Mrs. E.J.
