I have found the following information within Ancestry.com related to the parentage of Ann Clementina Russell. The short story is that she was the the child of an unwed couple. I have not found anything yet that states that her parents were ever married. Her mother was Clementina (Stillwell) Peeler [Russell?] Haines. Clementina was divorced by her 1st husband Richmond Peeler of Arkansas Territory before 1820, because he thought she was having an affair with Land Speculator William Russell. It appears Ann was born sometime after the divorce, but may haven even been conceived AFTER the divorce. Clementina claimed in her Will of 1825, that William Russell was in fact Ann's father, and had agreed to Support Ann.

Clementina, daughter of Joseph Stillwell II and Sarah Winter was born about 1793. She married Richmond Peeler who was a property owner at Arkansas Post. He was also in the legal profession and would travel around the district and hold court to settle claims. He owned not only a dwelling house but also owned the building in which the Arkansas Gazette was first published at Arkansas Post. He was also interested in politics and ran unsuccessfully for political office twice in the early 1820’s. He ran for both Representative and for Senator in the Territorial Legislature but was defeated. Before 1820, Clementina and Mr. Peeler were divorced reportedly as a result of her involvement with Mr. William Russell. Mr. Russell was a land speculator in the state and was closely associated with Clementina’s father, Joseph Stillwell, II. Russell and Stillwell were both included in the Spanish Land Grant No. 2399 with eight other men. As stated in Clementina’s will (drawn up in 1825), her daughter, Ann Clementina Russell, was William Russell’s daughter. Clementina married Benjamin Haines on September 8, 1839. She died March 31, 1848.
