Catherine Hoover born in 1761 to Jacob Hoover and Anna Maria Hans married John Shoemaker in 1778 at Ft. Pitt, Fayette Co., PA. By Dec. 1803 John and Catherine were living in Ohio Co., KY and on that date John bought 400 acres on the mouth of Sinking Creek in Breckenridge Co., KY. John and Catherine had 6 children; Adam, a daughter, John Jr. another daughter Jacob and Stephen all born in Fayette Co., PA. John husband of Catherine and their sons Adam, John Jr. and Stephen started buying land in Perry Co., Indiana. In John Shoemaker's will he left money to his wife Catherine to pay for the land he had already entered but not paid for yet in Perry Co., IN lying next to Adam's land. The son Jacob died at about age 23 and is buried beside his father in the Old Tucker School Cemetery in Breckenridge Co., KY. Catherine lived to be 87 years old and is buried near her sons John Jr. and Stephen. This is the home place where the Shoemaker family first settled in Perry Co., IN This became the first Shoemaker Cemetery.
