DEATH OF MRS. WM. B. STEWART
Anna Bennett, oldest daughter of Nathan and Juda Bennett, was born in Harrison county, Ind., on Nov. 15, 1867 and passed from this life at her home in Alexandria, Nebr., on Febr. 22,1940, at the age of 72 years, 3 months and 7 days.
While yet young in years, she accompanied her parents west to Nebraska, who settled in Thayer county where she spent her childhood days.
She was united in marriage to William B. Stewart at Hebron, Nebr., on June 23, 1885. Following their marriage they resided on the Stewart homestead 4 miles west of Bruning. From there they moved to Strang, Nebr., living there a few years and then to Blue Hill, Nebr., later returning to Strang, where they resided until 17 years ago when they moved to Alexandria, where they have since made their home.
To this happy union were born seven children - Walter, who preceded her in death in October, 1926; Mrs. Ada Hall of Geneva, Nebr., Mrs. Gertrude Kelch of Powell, Arthur of Fairbury, Mrs. Eva Wynn of Detroit, Kans., Mrs Pearl Thornburgh of Alexandria, and Verlie of Belvidere. These together with her husband of these many years, are left to mourn her departure. She also leaves to mourn, 21 grand children and 13 great grand children; two sisters - Mrs. Clara Ralston and Mrs. Minnie Taylor of Hastings, Neb., two brothers - Philip Bennett of Maryland, and Sam Bennett of Superior, Nebr., together with a host of other relatives and friends.
She lived to celebrate with her husband and children, their Golden Wedding Anniversary on June 23, 1935, this most happy occasion being observed by a large family gathering.
Grandma Stewart, as she was lovingly known by all, joined the Methodist church at Strang, Nebr., while a young woman, and her life has been a steadfast example of all that is noble and good. She gave an untiring devotion to her family, to whom she was best known, and her thoughtfulness and lovely character were all the more pronounced during her last long illness. Her memory will always be cherished by those who knew and loved her.
Funeral services were conducted from the home in Alexandria, Father Smith, pastor of the Episcopal church of Fairbury officiating and interment made in the Alexandria cemetery, Sunday afternoon.
