Evening Times, Cumberland, Maryland, February 16, 1921: "Martin Joseph Brown, age 41, brother of Leo R. Brown, Western Maryland Railway conductor, this city, died Tuesday morning, at West Penn Hospital, Pittsburgh, following an operation for appendicitis. He is survived by his widow, who was a Miss Humbertson, of Frostburg. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Patrick H. Brown, reside at Westernport. The funeral will be held tomorrow morning at 9 o'clock from St. Michael's Catholic Church, Frostburg."
The Herald, Piedmont, West Virginia, Friday, February 18, 1921: "Death's Doings-Martin Joseph Brown, aged 41 years, died at the West Penn Hospital, Pittsburgh, Tuesday, following an operation for appendicitis. Mr. Brown was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Patrick H. Brown, of Westernport, and was a native of this place. He had spent most of his life at Frostburg. He is survived by his parents, his widow, who was Miss Humbertson, of Frostburg, and the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. H.A. Moore, Newport, Pa.; Mr. L.P. Brown, Cumberland; James P. Brown, Luke; William Brown, Westernport; Bernard Brown, State College, Pa.; Frank Brown, Red Lodge, Mont.; Mrs. M.H. Matthes, Ardmore Park, Pa.; Mrs. R.D. Hagner, Washington, D.C.; Mrs. Aubrey Davis, Monrovia, Md.; and Harry Brown, assistant manager of the Chatham Hotel, Pittsburgh. At the time of his death Mr. Brown was manager of the Pittsburgh Athletic Association and resided in the Oakland district of Pittsburgh. The body was taken to Frostburg for interment."
