Samuel D. Allen, early settler in Port Byron, died at the home of his son, Samuel E. Allen, in that place Saturday, 5th, at the age of 89 years. months and 15 days. He was. a man of that remarkable vitality characteristic of the early settlers, and he retained his powers almost to the end, having been confined to his bed for only a short time before his death. He was a native of New York. He located in Coe township in 1843. Following are the children left by the deceased: John, of Port Byron; Mary, of Pannell, Okla.; Laura, of Davenport; Emma, of Oregon; Maggie (Mrs. Geo. Cooley), of Port Byron; Ruth (Mrs. H. Cooley), of Rock Island; Samuel, Frank and Clarence of Port Byron; Charles of Moline; Elmer, of Rock Island; Ada, of Washington, D. C. The remains were buried in Oak Grove cemetery.
