Obituary notice
Peggy Riner Harp Chance, 80, passed sweetly into the arms of her Lord on June 10, 2012. Mrs. Chance was born on October 31,1931 in Emanuel County and lived in Conyers, Pitts, and Twin City. The last years of her long and brave battle with Alzheimer's Disease were spent in St. Marys and finally in Brunswick at SGHS Memory Care Center.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, William Edward Chance; her cherished parents, Elder Rollie Riner and Laura (Chick) Riner; her brother Dan M. Riner and Annette; and many other beloved family members and friends.

Those that remain to celebrate and treasure her memory include her son, Ricky L. Harp of Wilcox County, GA; daughter, Denise Chance Oravec (James E.) of St. Marys, GA; six grandchildren, Kimberly Harp Garrigus (Andrew), Michael Penney, Kristyn Penney Boothe (Deshon), Jonathan Oravec, and Benjamin Oravec; three great-grandchildren; Ethan Garrigus, Hudson and Kady Boothe; much-loved nephews, nieces, cousins; and those at the Memory Care Center who became a dear family.

Mrs. Chance graduated from Emanuel County Institute (high school) and then from Atlanta Business College in the late 1940's. She worked in the medical profession for many years, beginning with the Old Grady Hospital in Atlanta, and then working for several hospitals and doctors in the Emanuel County area and Conyers.

First and foremost she devoted her life to her family. She and her precious William spent years caring for her parents, his parents (James Edward and Cleo Short Chance), and several other family members. They lovingly raised their two children, Ricky and Denise, both of whom they were so proud. They enjoyed their grandchildren, and created many wonderful memories and traditions that will remain and be passed down.

Mrs. Chance was a member of Old Canoochee Primitive Baptist Church, a faith and people that she dearly loved. Over her lifetime she won several service awards, many recognizing her commitment to organizations and activities to which her children belonged, or organizations that served others. She will be remembered well in Swainsboro and Conyers for her portrayal as a witch on Halloween, her birthday. It was her joy to entertain the many children young and old that came to see "the nice old witch", and to persuade her family, friends, and neighbors to don their costumes and do the same!

It was her desire that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to Old Canoochee Primitive Baptist Church c/o Elder Tommy Rountree - 231 Harmon Rd., Swainsboro, GA 30401.
Arrangements are handled by Tomlinson Funeral Home in Swainsboro. Visitation will be from 6-8:00 on Friday June 15, 2012 at Tomlinson Funeral Home, and on June 16, from 1:00-2:00 at Old Canoochee Primitive Baptist Church. Funeral services will be at 2:00 at Old Canoochee. Elder Tommy Rountree officiating, along with Elder Chris Folsom. Interment will be at Antioch Church Cemetery.
