Mary Katherine Johansen was born March 26, 1886, at Grand Island Nebraska. Her family moved to Holt County, Nebraska, where they homesteaded and after two or three years moved to Wayne, Nebraska, where she grew to womanhood.
She was united in marriage to Julius Nels Petersen, October 28, 1906, at Wayne. They moved to Laurel, Nebraska about 1911, and from there to Winner S.D. in 1917. In 1924 they moved to Todd County, S.D., south of Mission, where she lived until the time of her death.
She passed away in Valentine, Nebraska, November 30, 1960. She is survived by five of her six children; Lee of Crookston, Lorenz of Cascade, Idaho, Mrs. Luella Riley of Crookston, Mrs. Martha Litzo, of Newport, Washington, and Julius of Toppenish, Washington: fourteen grandchilden: one brother, Rasmus Johansen of San Hacinto (sp), California: besides other relatives and friends,
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and one son.
Funeral services were conducted in the Methodist Church in Valentine, December 3, 1960. Burial was in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
